{"id":205,"date":"2025-04-15T13:02:46","date_gmt":"2025-04-15T07:17:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hkh.icimod.org\/ar2024\/?post_type=highlights&#038;p=205"},"modified":"2025-04-16T14:07:37","modified_gmt":"2025-04-16T08:22:37","slug":"a-climate-resilient-agricultural-strategy-in-karnali","status":"publish","type":"highlights","link":"https:\/\/hkh.icimod.org\/ar2024\/highlights\/a-climate-resilient-agricultural-strategy-in-karnali\/","title":{"rendered":"A climate-resilient agricultural strategy in Karnali"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Provincial and local governments are playing an increasingly important role under Nepal\u2019s federal structure, and this opens more <a href=\"https:\/\/lib.icimod.org\/records\/d8qhv-0g362\">space for locally developed policy as well as local citizen engagement<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Karnali Province in western Nepal made a policy commitment in 2018 to support sustainable agricultural development and has been promoting organic and <a href=\"https:\/\/lib.icimod.org\/records\/0gn6z-dta36\">agroecological<\/a> agriculture. ICIMOD and other partners in the Green Resilient Agricultural Productive Ecosystems (<a href=\"https:\/\/lib.icimod.org\/records\/889s5-r4w35\">GRAPE<\/a>) Project have been supporting the provincial government to develop climate-resilient agriculture (CRA) solutions, train staff and arrange visits to other authorities managing similar transitions, including in Bhutan and India (Sikkim). The collaboration saw a network of 19 new <a href=\"https:\/\/lib.icimod.org\/record\/36530\">Community Learning Centres (CLCs)<\/a> set up in Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces for the co-development, testing and demonstration of technologies and approaches with farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The provincial government went on to ask GRAPE\/ICIMOD to provide <a href=\"https:\/\/lib.icimod.org\/records\/nac8h-2f144\">technical assistance<\/a> for a new Karnali Agricultural Development Strategy focussing on CRA, including Nature-based Solutions, management of springsheds and rangelands, and commitment to social inclusion and gender equality. The provincial government and the Nepal Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives have now <a href=\"https:\/\/lib.icimod.org\/records\/8n9zq-d1117\">budgeted<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/lib.icimod.org\/records\/dx1zt-4nj58\">five million NPR<\/a> (USD37,000) for climate-resilient and agroecological practices in Karnali.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":182,"template":"","categories":[39,23,14],"class_list":["post-205","highlights","type-highlights","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-economies","category-livelihoods-and-enterprises","category-resilient-economies-and-landscapes"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/hkh.icimod.org\/ar2024\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/highlights\/205","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/hkh.icimod.org\/ar2024\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/highlights"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/hkh.icimod.org\/ar2024\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/highlights"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/hkh.icimod.org\/ar2024\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/182"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/hkh.icimod.org\/ar2024\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=205"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/hkh.icimod.org\/ar2024\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=205"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
