In the wake of the devastating floods that hit the country in 2022, Pakistan invested in a major overhaul to its disaster response systems. In 2024, ICIMOD brought <a href=\"https:\/\/lib.icimod.org\/records\/33px9-fdb68\">senior disaster management officials from Bhutan and Nepal<\/a> to the country\u2019s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to demonstrate these new systems, including its National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), decentralised disaster management framework, and early warning mechanisms. A joint simulation exercise on a GLOF provided lessons on early warning and operational preparedness. The three countries expressed support for a mountain-disasters thematic working group, the development of a shared inventory of disaster management equipment, and a regional platform for knowledge-sharing and coordination.
